    Passage 1
In the field of psychology, there has long been a certain haziness surrounding the definition ofcreativity, an I-know-it-when-I-see-it attitude that has eluded a precise formulation. During ourconversation, Mark Beeman, a cognitive neuroscientist at Northwestern University, told me that heused to be reluctant to tell people what his area of study was, for fear of being dismissed ormisunderstood. What, for instance, crosses your mind when you think of creativity Well, we knowthat someone is creative if he produces new things or has new ideas. And yet, as John Kounios, apsychologist at Drexel University who collaborates frequently with Beeman, points out, that view iswrong, or at least not entirely right. "Creativity is the process, not the product," he says.
To illustrate, Beeman offers an example. Imagine someone who has never used or seen apaperclip and is struggling to keep a bunch of papers together. Then the person comes up with a newway of bending a stiff wire to hold the papers in place. "That was very creative," Beeman says. Onthe flip side, if someone works in a new field--Beeman gives the example of nanotechnology--anything that he produces may be considered inherently "creative." But was the act of producing itactually creative As Beeman put it,"Not all artists are creative. And some accountants are verycreative."
Insight, however, has proved less difficult to define and to study. Because it arrives at a specificmoment in time, you can isolate it, examine it, and analyze its characteristics. "Insight is only onepart of creativity," Beeman says."But we can measure it. We have a temporal marker thatsomething just happened in the brain. I′d never say that′s all of creativity, but it′s a central, identifiable component." When scientists examine insight in the lab, they are looking at what typesof attention and thought processes lead to that moment of synthesis: If you are trying to facilitate abreakthrough, are there methods you can use that help If you feel stuck on a problem, are theretricks to get you through
In a recent study, Beeman and Kounios followed people′s gazes as they attempted to solvewhat′s called the remote-associates test, in which the subject is given a series of words, like "pine,""crab," and "sauce," and has to think of a single word that can logically be paired with all of them.
They wanted to see if the direction of a person′ s eyes and her rate of blinking could shed light onher approach and on her likelihood of success. It turned out that if the subject looked directly at aword and focused on it--that is, blinked less frequently, signaling a higher degree of closeattention--she was more likely to be thinking in an analytical, convergent fashion, going throughpossibilities that made sense and systematically discarding those that didn′ t. If she looked at "pine,"say, she might be thinking of words like "tree," "cone," and "needle," then testing each option tosee if it fit with the other words. When the subject stopped looking at any specific word, either bymoving her eyes or by blinking, she was more likely to think of broader, more abstract associations.
That is a more insight-oriented approach."You need to learn not just to stare but to look outsideyour focus," Beeman says. (The solution to this remote-associates test: "apple. ")
As it turns out, by simple following someone′s eyes and measuring her blinks and fixationtimes, Beeman′s group can predict how someone will likely solve a problem and when she isnearing that solution. That′s an important consideration for would-be creative minds: it helps usunderstand how distinct patterns of attention may contribute to certain kinds of insights.
Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word"haziness" inPARAGRAPH ONE

    A.Arbitrariness.

    B.Vagueness.

    C.Misunderstanding.

    D.Controversy.

    答案:B
    解析:
词义题。根据第一段“In the field of psychology, there has long been a certain hazinesssurrounding the definition of creativity,an I-know-it-when-I-see-it attitude that has eluded a precise formulation.”

    Passage 1
From James Moriarty to Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the idea of the evil genius has been a staple ofstorytelling. But is it true Or, to put the matter less starkly, is there a connection between creativityand dishonesty in real people who are not bent on world domination, as well as in fictionalsupervillains Writing in Psychological Science, Francesca Gino of Harvard University and Scott
Wiltermuth of the University of Southem California suggest that there is--and that cheating actuallyincreases creativity.
Dr Gino and Dr Wiltermuth tested the honesty of 153 volunteers with a task that involvedadding up numbers for a cash reward, which was presented in a way that seemed to them to allowthem to cheat undetected(though the researchers knew when they did). This was sandwichedbetween two tests for creativity, one of which was to work out how to fix a candle to a cardboardwall with a box of drawing pins, and the other a word-association test. This combination showed notonly that creative people cheat more, but also that cheating seems to encourage creativity--for thosewho cheated in the adding-up test were even better at word association than their candle-test resultspredicted.
That result was confirmed by a second set of experiments, in which some people were givenmany opportunities to cheat and others few.The crucial predictor of creativity, the researchers con-firmed, was the actual amount of cheating, not any propensity to cheat.
A third experiment tested the idea that this is because both creativity and dishonesty require, asit were, a flexible attitude to rules. In this experiment volunteers were asked about their attitude tobossy signs, such as "no cycling" and "no diving" notices, after being allowed to cheat (again, in away transparent to the experimenters) on a coin-tossing test.Cheats, it turned out, were less con-strained to obey such signs.
It is, it goes without saying, a long way from such acts of petty defiance to building a lair insidean extinct volcano and threatening Washington from it--or even to non-fictional acts of seriouscrime. But some sort of link exists, so this research does indeed suggest that Arthur Conan Doyleand Ian Fleming were on to something.
What conclusion can be drawn from this passage

A.The more a person cheats, the more creative he is.

B.Cheating is likely to encourage creativity to some extent.

C.A person who cheats is more creative than a person who doesn' t.

D.A person who is creative cheats more than a person who is less creative.

    答案:B
    解析:
推断题。根据文章第二段最后“This combination showed not only that creative peoplecheatmore, but alsothat cheating seemsto encourage creativity”即这个不仅表明有创造力的人会欺骗更多,也表明欺骗似乎会激励创造性。第三段第一句“Tllat resultwas confirmedby a second setofexperiments”即第二组实验证实了第一组实验的结果.故选B。

资料:Workforce planning helps an organization to estimate its future workforce requirements and calculate the numbers, nature and sources of potential employees who might meet that demand.
Effective workforce planning helps companies identify and plan how to tackle their current and future workforce challenges and priorities. It provides a sound basis for developing an effective workforce strategy.
An easy way of thinking about workforce planning it to get the right number of people, with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time. For our company, the right people will be those with relevant skills and capabilities to drive the company forward this year, next year and future years. Our company then provides training and development opportunities that enable people to enhance their skill sets and build their careers. This gives the company the continued benefit of experienced, committed and well-trained employees.
Like other established companies,we may have a large number of long-standing employees with vast skills and experience. However, as people retire, it needs to replace those skills. Careful monitoring is essential to examine the age and skills profile of the workforce when compared with present and future company needs. This ensures the business can meet its objective.

Why is workforce planning so essential?

A.because it enables the company to know its employees better.
B.because it makes the company prepared for the potential challenges.
C.because it gives the employees a chance to receive training
    D.all above

    第二篇

Three Ways to Become More Creative

Most people believe they don't have much imagination. They are wrong. Everyone has imagination, but
most of us,once we become adults, forget how to access it. Creativity isn't always connected with great works
of art or ideas.People at work and in their free time routinely think of creative ways to solve problems.Maybe
you have a goal to achieve,a tricky question to answer or you just want to expand your mind! Here are three
    techniques to help you.
This technique involves taking unrelated ideas and trying to find links between them.First, think about
the problem you have to solve or the job you need to do.Then find an image, word, idea or object, for exam-
    pie,a candle.Write down all the ideas/words associated with candles:light,fire,matches,wax,night,silence,
etc.Think of as many as you can?The next stage is to relate the ideas to the job you have to do?So imagine
you want to buy a friend an original present, you could buy him tickets to a match or take him out for the
    night.
Imagine that normal limitations don't exist. You have as much time/space/money,etc.as you want.
Think about your goal and the new possibilities. If,for example, your goal is to learn to ski,you can now prac-
tice skiing every day of your life(because you have the time and the money). Now adapt this to reality.May-
be you can practice skiing every day in December,or every Monday in January.
    Look at the situation from a different point of view. Good negotiators(谈判者)use this technique in business;
and so do writers.Fiction writers often imagine they are the characters in their books. They ask questions:
what does this character want? Why can't she get it?What changes must she make to get what she wants?
What does she dream about? If your goal involves other people, put yourself" in their shoes".The best fisher-
    men think like fish!

According to the passage, when we become adults_______________.
A:most of us are no longer creative
B:we are not as imaginative as children
C:we can still learn to be more creative
D:we are unwilling to be creative

    答案:C
    解析:
    由第一段第二句“They are wrong”可知,成年人也有想象力,且由该段最后一句中的“.help you”可知,成年人可以学习发挥想象力。
    由第二段第四句“Write down all the ideas/words associated with...”可知选C。
由第三段第三句“Think about your goal and the new possibilities”可知选C。
    put yourself in sb's shoes是固定搭配,意为“设身处地”,故选D。
    第三个技巧是:设身处地地站在别人的角度上看问题。故销售员应考虑顾客所需的。

    单选题
How to Start Your Own Business I have recently started a business and have learned some crucial lessons in the process that I feel privileged to share with you. 1. Identify your motivation. __1__ To have more time? To make more money? To be your own boss? To have creative control over what you love to do? Write out all of your motivating factors and prioritize them. When you see them listed, you might see a pattern in that you're just unhappy at your current job and starting your own business isn't the answer. 2. Identify your passion. What do you love to do? What skills and knowledge do you uniquely bring to the table? What gets you excited about your work? __2__ If you keep your passion in plain sight, you will stay focused on the purpose of your business and not solely on the logistics. 3. Identify your market. If you are starting your business locally, research your competitors. Determine if there is room in the market for your business. What will you do differently to draw in customers? What niche market are the other businesses missing? __3__ Your business cannot survive without customers, so do enough research on the front end to determine if there are enough potential clients to keep your business alive. 4. Identify your finances. __4__ You have to buy furniture, trash cans, a garage door opener, light fixtures and landscaping equipment, and before you know it, you've far exceeded your financial boundaries. That can happen just as easily in a business. Do exhaustive financial planning. Meet with a financial advisor or someone at your bank to examine the financial viability of your business and the process of getting it up and running. __5__ Be prepared for financial loss and get advice on how to alleviate that burden in the future. ___2___内应为()

    问答题
Practice 6 Discussion—about 5 minutes In this part of the test you are given a discussion topic. You have 30 seconds to look at the prompt card, an example of which is below, and then about 3 minutes to discuss the topic with your partner. After that the examiner will ask you more questions related to the topic. Time Management Your company has found that ineffective time management is one of the major problem areas throughout the workforce. You have been asked to put forward some suggestions for improving the situation. Discuss, and decide together: ● Why poor time management can become a major problem in companies ● What procedures could be adopted to ensure that time is managed effectively.

    正确答案: 【参考范例】
A: Hi, as you know, these days our company is kind of out of control. Don’t you think so?
B: Yeah. Everything appears to be in chaos here in our company. And that clearly has resulted from poor time management.
A: You mean poor time management has led to all these problems. Why?
B: When a company does not have a well-planned time-schedule, they usually do not distribute blocks of time to specified tasks. They do not have a definite clue of when they should finish a certain task. And
A: And I think the ordering of priorities is often ignored. I mean the urgent tasks need completing first. But in our company every task is treated equally, even though it is a very urgent task.
B: That’s the point. So time should be scheduled based on the importance of the tasks we need to handle.
A: So what do you think we can do so as to manage time effectively here in our company?
B: You mean what methods we can adopt?
A: Sure. That’s what our boss is requiring us to do, right?
B: Right. I think we’ve got a lot to do. First, we should make all the staff members aware of the importance of effective time management to our company.
A: Yes, I think instruction in time management would be useful for them, especially those in supervisory positions.
B: Right, perhaps we can run a few training courses for them. If necessary, we may invite some professionals from outside to help us.
A: Another thing we need to do is to make all the managers, or even every employee, come up with their own job description. Only in this way, can they be pretty sure about what they are accountable for and what they are not.
B: Yes, that’s a good idea. And I think, the top managers of our company should make a set of rules with respect to what sort of jobs should be paid prior attention. In this way, we can confirm that important tasks are coped with first.
A: Good idea. So in conclusion, our company should run a few training courses, and every employee should write down their own job description.
B: And rules should be made as to what sort of job should be paid prior attention.

One of the main goals of the modern woman’s liberation movement, which started in the early 1960s, was to _____ sex discrimination in the workforce, and to open up careers for women that were previously reserved for men.
    A

    abolish

    B

    eliminate

    C

    diminish

    D

What is the best title for this passage

    A.Creativity. and Insights

    B.Insights and Problem Solving

    C.Where Do Insight Moments Come

    D.Where Do Creativity Moments Come

Where Do Creativity Moments Come作为本文的标题最恰当。

Who may be the potential employees of the company?

A.those who have many work experiences.

    问答题
题目要求: In this part of the test, you are asked to give a short talk on a business topic. You have to choose one of the topics from the three below and then talk for about one minute. You have one minute to prepare your ideas.Practice 1 (The candidate chooses one topic and speaks about it for one minute.) A How to negotiate successfully when we are in business? B In business, what important role does the communication take? C What kinds of skills shall the technical writers have?

    正确答案: 【参考范例】
    If you choose A:
It is a key skill in any business to negotiate successfully so as to reach agreements with other people or parties. The negotiation could be done with a buyer or a seller and it will always involve an element of compromise, no matter what. But, when entering negotiations, it is important to keep in mind that to negotiate and make agreements successfully is almost impossible unless you think you can afford to ‘lose’ or walk away from on offer. The result will be you avoiding asking more than what you suppose the other side will give without a dispute. Consequently, you will become a passive observer, while the other side will dictate the terms.
    If you choose B:
Communication is one of the most important features in any business. Good communications are indispensable at any stage of the business process.
Within individual company, internal communications happen at, and between the different levels. Directors will communicate with one another with regard to the company’s overall strategy. They communicate their plans to managers, and the managers then inform the other employees. Negotiations are usually conducted in terms of payment and working conditions. Managers try to boost morale and motivation with good communication. Employees also communicate with one another, over certain matters, for instance production and wages.
Reliable and effective communication is instrumental when it comes to efficient management of a company.
    If you choose C:
Firstly, technical writers should be able to write well, which means more than just knowing the basics of spelling, grammar and punctuation. The ability to condense, organize and generalize complicated information to make it easier to understand is also very important. A good technical writer must also be capable of handling tight deadlines. As far as career prospects go, with the valuable experience gained, many technical writers actually have the chance to take on management roles. Then they will be responsible for the work of other writers within a particular company; or they may want to become contractors, in other words, selling their services to companies at an hourly rate through an agency which employs many freelance technical writers.

Dreams Dreams do not happen when you're asleep. They happen when you're awake. Whatever your goals are, always remember you can make it true. Whether it be love, money, a childhood dream, and ultimately happiness, the most important idea is that you must never lose sight of your dream. Create reminders. Think about your original motivation often. Besides obvious factors that will come along when your dream is realized, think about other reasons. Who are you doing this dream for? Remind yourself often of your plan. Physical symbols always help—posting up pictures of the end result, buying items that symbolize your goals. Express your dream frequently. Whisper your dream through moonlight. Shout it on a busy highway. Write it on a balloon and set it free. Write it on paper boats and float them in the ocean. Write it as a message on a bottle and float that into the ocean. Explore and try different ways of different cultures of making ishes come true, small or big: paper cranes, and shooting stars. Tell your pet if you have one. Tell it to all the people you care about in your life. Create deadlines and punishments. For every step along the way, think of a realistic deadline. If too small, eventually you will be crashed with all the work you need and possibly never do it. If too large, you will probably forget about it. Punishments are necessary. They can be keeping yourself away from your favorite activities. Get a friend or family member to enforce this punishment. Keep your life. Do not forget about friends, family, work, and especially yourself! Keep contact with friends and family: over the internet, visit them, write to them. Try not start skipping work to work on your dream. Keep your brain, body, and soul in good shape at all times. Sleep often, read often, and enjoy life. Brainstorm ideas for your dream. Mind mapping (essentially creative concept mapping) is the ideal way to brainstorm. Any creative outlet will do just fine to find some creative ideas for your dream, especially writing or drawing. Any sort of art, even singing, playing music, photography, wood-carving can work. Buy a journal or two. Find inspiration. As long as you can see your drearn, you can make it come true.()
