正确答案:
To Make Study a Method, Not GoalIn the picture, the dialogue between a pupil and an elder man is very thought-provoking. Carrying a schoolbag much taller than himself, the boy looks at the old man in admiration. If only I were you, retired at home, he says. The old man, on the contrary, admires the pupil, if only I were you, having class at school.
The striking difference between the two characters in the cartoon reveals a great concern: the meaning of study, or why study? The little boy, like most of his peers, are overburdened not only by their school work, but all sorts of off-school training courses sponsored by their parents who are convinced that is the best way of helping their children survive the fierce competition now and in the future. The old man, no matter however mourning over lack of opportunity of study at school in his early age, is eager to continue his learning and live a better life. Anyhow, chances are both of them regard study as their goal, not a substantial method to realize their dreams. The boy buried under endless assignments and tasks, has little time to think about What do I study for? The eider man, on the other hand, is barely aware that study is not con- fined in school classes. He can learn what he likes in dozens of ways. In a word, they go to two extremes without exploring their own goal of life.
A life without aim is just like a sailor without compass, warns a famous philosopher. But if we treat our education as our man goal, and not as a means to an end, then very likely, we will probably be missing in the complex world and admiring others lives. To make everyone of us a promising person, let's build up our aim, right now, without hesitation.
