We're bringing health care to"where people live and work."So declared Larry Merlo,CEO of CVS Health,an American retail-pharmacy giant, announcing a$69 billion deal to buy Aetna,a heatth insurer. One rationale for the deal-assuming the regulators wave it through-is for the merged firm to develop personalised health care that people can easily get access to.There is another, more defensive, impetus behind the deal-the prospect of Amazon going into prescription medicine. The American pharmaceutical market is an alluring one for the online giant. It is large,worth$450 billion in 2016.And it is widely regarded as inefficient, leaving customers without good information about products they are buying.Compared with books, toys and other bulky items, the drugs market would appear to be a nirvana for Amazon.Prescription medicines weigh almost nothing, take up little space and can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars per pill. But three barriers block the road to this idyll.First, the sale and distribution of drugs is heavily regulated.Amazon would not be able to dump prescription drugs into the same fulfilment channels as its other products. It must acquire pharmaceutical licences for any state where it wishes to operate.Amazon would also need approval from the Food and Drug Administration at a federal level.Operating in a controlled industry would be a departure for a free-wheeling tech firm.Second, most drugs are paid for by insurers, not by consumers. The pharmacy-benefits managers(PBMs),a sort of middlemen that buy drugs for insurers and companies, perform the complex task of matching purchases with patients'insurers,so that drugs are paid for. That is a source of the sort of opacity that Amazon would seek to remove. But the rcommerce firm would still need to handle issues of payment in the background, without keeping asking consumers for insurance details.Third, although drugs do come in small packages, their shipping and handling often require special attention. Many drugs must be kept cold throughout the supply chain.Others are dangerous, and must be kept in locked cages.Yet these drugs are often also the most expensive. If Amazon cherry-picks drugs that fit well into its existing network,it will miss out on a large slice of the market.Customers could find it confusing to be able to get some prescriptions through Amazon's store but not others.Amazon could find itself a partner, however. In July the boss of Express Scripts,a PBM,said it could use Amazon as an"efficient provider in networks".Or Amazon could buy what it needs. It might buy Rite Aid,a big pharmacy chain, giving it licences,a"cold-chain"infrastructure and Rite Aid's small PBM in one swoop.A prospect like that goes a long way to explaining the marriage of CVS and Aetna.
What is a PBM responsible for?

A.It maiches drug purchases with patients.
B.It seeks to remove the opacity about drugs.
C.It explains the insurance details to consumers.
D.It handles the issues concerning drugs payment

    U. S. States Do Poorly in Women's Health

Not a single U. S. state meets basic federal goals for women's health, and the nation
as a whole fails except in two areas一mammograms(乳腺X光照片)and dental(牙齿的)

Millions of women lack health insurance, and states make it difficult to enroll(加入)in
Medicaid, the state-federal health insurance plan for the poor, according to the report.
And few states are doing anywhere near enough to help women quit smoking一the
leading cause of death in the United States.
"The nation as a whole and the individual states fall short of meeting national goals,"
reads the report, put together by the National Women's Law Center and the Oregon
Health&Science University."These health goals provide a road map for assessing the
    status of women's health."
Of 27 measures examined by the group, from screening for diseases to actually treating
them, the nation passes on only two,the researchers said."The nation is so far from the
health goals that it receives an overall grade of'unsatisfactory',"they wrote.
The problem seems to be a lack among states of an overall plan for health in general,
    the NWLC said.
" State policy makers' piecemeal(一件一件做的)approach to our health care crisis has
resulted in a complex and ineffective system that fails to meet the health care needs of
    women,"Judy Waxman,NWLC Vice President for Health,said in a statement.
"Lawmakers need to take a comprehensive,long-term approach to meeting women's
health needs and tackle this serious problem that troubles so many families."

The national goals for women's health make it easier to
    A:meet women's health needs.

B.The American Pharmaceutical Market:A Goldmine for Online Giants
C.The Prospect of Amazon's Entry:A Spur to a Massive Deal in Health Care
D.The Marriage of CVS and Aetna:A Tough and Long Road to Go

families, communities, and even regional authorities to make sure that resources and support are available to enable each individual to lead a healthy life.

    Paragraph 3______
    A:Importance of immunization.
    B:Relationship with other health services.
C:Creation of necessary conditions for healthy behavior.
    D:Encouraging unhealthy behavior.
E:Encouragement of behavior good for your health.
    F: Addressing a variety of behavior-affecting factors.

Health education does not replace other health services , but it is needed to promote the proper use of these services.
在段落第二句中出现了转折词but,而且在其引导的句中有与F相对应的信息(address the other factors that affect health behavior),因此可以直接判断F是答案。
Health education is the part of health care that is concerned with promoting healthy behavior.
(Health education does not replace other health services)可直接找到答案," replale”与“take the place of”为近义词。

    U. S. to Start $3.2 Billion Child Health Study in January

A study that will cost $3.2 billion and last more than two decades to track the health of 100,000 U.S.children from before birth to age 21 will be launched in January,U.S.health officials said on Friday.
Officials from the U.S. government's National Institutes of Health said they hope the study,to be conducted at 105 locations throughout the United States, can help identify early-life influences that affect later development, with the goal of learning new ways to treat or prevent illness.
The study will examine hereditary(遗传的)and environmental factors such as exposure to certain chemicals that affect health.
Researchers will collect genetic and biological samples from people in the study as well as samples from the homes of the women and their babies including air, water, dust and materials used to construct their residences, the NIH said.
Officials said more than $200 million has been spent already and the study is projected to cost $3.2 billion.
"We anticipate that in the long term(从长远说来),what we learn from the study will result in a significant savings in the nation's health care costs,"Dr. Duane Alexander, who heads the NIH's Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, told reporters.
The study will begin in January when the University of North Carolina and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York start signing up(使报名从事)pregnant women whose babies will then be followed to age 21.
Some of the early findings will be about factors behind pre-term birth(早产),which has become more common in recent years, according to Dr. Peter Scheidt of the NIH,who heads the study.
The people taking part will be from rural, urban and suburban areas, from all income and educational levels and from all racial groups, the NIH said.

It is exoected that through the study the nation's health care costs_________.
A:will be lowered in the iong run
    B:will be signilicantly increasea
C:will be more than $200 million
    D:will reach $3.2 million

    答案:A
文章第二段提到了此项研究的goal,即aim,这便是“learning new ways to treat or prevent illness”。

New U. S. Plan for Disease Prevention
Urging Americans to take responsibility for their health,Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson on Tuesday launched a$15 million program to try to encourage communities to do more to prevent chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes(糖尿病).
The initiative highlights the costs of chronic diseases—the leading causes of death in the United States—and outlines ways that people can prevent them, including better diet and in-creased exercise.
“In the United States today,7 of 10 deaths and the vast majority of serious illness, disability and health care costs are caused by chronic diseases,”the Health and Human Services Depart-ment said in a statement.
The causes are often behavioral—smoking, poor eating habits and a lack of exercise.
“I am convinced that preventing disease by promoting better health is a smart policy choice for our future,”Thompson told a conference held to launch the initiative.
“Our current health care system is not structured to deal with the rising costs of treating dis-eases that are largely preventable through changes in our lifestyle choices.”
Thompson said heart disease and strokes will cost the country more than $351 billion in 2003.
“These leading causes of death for men and women are largely preventable, yet we as a na- tion are not taking the steps necessary for us to lead healthier, longer lives,”he said.
The $15 million is designed to go to communities to promote prevention, pushing for chan-ges as simple as building sidewalks to encourage people to walk more.
Daily exercise such as walking can prevent and even reverse heart disease and diabetes, and prevent cancer and strokes.
The money will also go to community organizations, clinics and nutritionists who are being en-couraged to work together to educate people at risk of diabetes about what they can do to prevent it and encourage more cancer screening.
The American Cancer Society estimates that half of all cancers can be caught by screening, including Pap tests(巴氏试验)for cervical cancer(宫颈癌), mammograms for breast cancer, colonoscopies(结肠镜检查), and prostate(前列腺的)checks.
If such cancers were all caught by early screening, the group estimates that the survival rate for cancer would rise to 95 percent.

A: greater responsibility of the government
B: less need for input into treatment
C: higher costs of health care
D: more lifestyle choices for people

    答案:B

由第三段首句“In the United States today ,7 of 10 deaths and the vast majority of serious illness , disability and health care costs are caused by chronic diseases”可知,A、B两项正确。由第二段的“… people can prevent them , including better diet and increased exercise”和第六段的“diseases that are largely preventable through changes in our lifestyle choices”可知,D项正确。由第四段“The causes are often behavioral—smoking , poor eat-ing habits and a lack of exercise”可知,不健康的生活方式引起了慢性病,而不是慢性病引起了不健康的生活方式,因果关系不能弄错,故C项说法错误。

由第二段“…including better diet and increased exercise”(改善饮食结构和增加运动)及第四段“… smoking , poor eating habits and a lack of exercise”(抽烟、饮食不平衡、缺乏锻炼)可排除A、B、C三个选项,D项“更加频繁地洗手”在文中没有提及,根据常识可知勤洗手与慢性病无必然联系,故选D。

由第三段“the vast majority of serious illness , disability and health care costs are caused 1y chronic -I.ny cnronic rnseases…”(因慢性病导致的绝大多数重疾、残疾和健康护理需要巨大花费)及第六段“ …to deal with the rising costs of treating diseases that are largely preventa-ble through changes in our lifestyle choices”可知,漫性病的治疗花费极高,增加资金用于疾病的预防可大大减少用于治疗费用,故选B。

由首段“… a $ 15 million program to try to encourage communities to do more to pre-vent chronic diseases…”(投入1 ,500万美元用以鼓励各社团更加努力预防各种如心脏病、癌症、糖尿病等慢性疾病)可知,该项目主要用来加强疾病预防,故选A。

由最后一段“If such cancers were all caught by early screening…the survival rate for cancer would rise to 95 percent”可知,如果癌症越早发现,将有助于提高癌症患者的存活率达95%,也就是降低其死亡率,故选D。

We can infer from the last paragraph that ______.
    A

Americans enjoy the medical care of their choice.

    B

most Canadians deem their health care system to be flawless.

    C

Canadians do not benefit from all new medical achievements.

    D

most Americans are proud of their health care system.

根据题干信息定位到最后一段最后一句“…0nly 26 percent of Americans who felt their system was superior to that in Canada.”,由此可知,只有少数美国人对美国的医疗体系感到满意,觉得优胜于加拿大的医疗体系,故选项A和D 是错误的;最后一段第三句提到“But despite some small problems, most Canadians like their health care system.”

Working Together Against the Infectious Diseases There is another area that really may sound like it’s outside the range of politics and Iraqi people where we’re cooperating together, but it’s an area that is vital to the well-being of the Chinese people, the American people, the people in the world, and it’s now we’re working together to deal with the dangers inherent in infectious diseases. China’s sobering experience with SARS stands as a lesson to all countries on the challenge of infectious diseases. I have called HIV/AIDS the world’s greatest weapon of mass destruction today. It threatens to kill tens of millions of men, women and children—in the Caribbean, in Latin America, in the subcontinent, especially in Africa—and yes, it is a danger to China as well. And China’s government is facing up to this crisis, working with us. The United States has told China we are ready to help. Last month, our Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson spoke in China of President Bush’s interest in furthering our practical cooperation on HIV/AIDS and other health issues. Specialists from our Centers for Disease Control are working on the ground with their Chinese counterparts. Our National Institute of Health has granted $14.8 million to help China upgrade its health care infrastructure. My friends, it is upon such concrete forms of cooperation on issues of regional and global importance that a 21st century US-China relationship will be built, issue by issue, experience by experience, challenge by challenge, initiative by initiative, program by program. As China participates more actively in world affairs, we will extend our welcome. Building and sustaining a healthy overall relationship is good for America, it is good for China, it is good for the region, and good for the international community.

What prompted CVS to buy Aetna?

A.lts eagerness to bring health care to all.
B.Its desire to develop personalized medicine
C.Its concern over a potential threat
D.lts passion for prescription drug business

利用开篇句干扰,但选项bring health care to all和原文bringing health care to“where people live ancl work”存在偏差,且这是“CVS宣称的合并前景”,并非题目所问“推动合并的原因”。B.

Text 2 No wonder they are called"patients".When people enter the health-care systems of rich countries today, they know what they will get:prodding doctors, endless tests, rising costs and, above all, long waits. Some stoicism will always be needed, because health care is complex and diligence matters. But frustration is boiling over. This week three of the biggest names in American business-Amazon,Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase-announced a new venture to provide better, cheaper health care for their employees.A fundamental problem with today's system is that patients lack knowledge and control.Access to data can bestow both. The intemet already enables patients to seek online consultations when and where it suits them.Yet radical change demands a shift in emphasis, from providers to patients and from doctors to data. That shift is happening.Technologies such as the smartphone allow people to monitor their own health. The possibilities multiply when you add the crucial missing ingredients-access to your own medical records and the ability easily to share information with those you trust. That allows you to reduce inefficiencies in your own treatment and also to provide data to help train medical algorithms. As with all new technologies, pitfalls accompany the promise.Hucksters will launch apps that do not work. But with regulators demanding oversight of apps that present risks to patients, users will harm only their wallets. Not everyone will want to take active control of their own health care;plenty will want the professionals to manage everything. The benefits of new technologies often flow disproportionately to the rich. Those fears are mitigated by the incentives that employers, govemments and insurers have to invest in cost-efficient preventive care for all.Other risks are harder to deal with.Greater transparency may encourage the hale and hearty not to take out health insurance. They may even make it harder for the unwell to find cover. Will the benefits ofmaking data more widely available outweigh such risks? The signs are that they will.Plenty of countries are now opening up their medical records, but few have gone as far as Sweden. It aims to give all its citizens electronic access to their medical records by 2020;over a third of Swedes have already set up accounts.Studies show that patients with such access have a better understanding of their illnesses, and that their treatment is more successful.Trials in America and Canada have produced not just happier patients but lower costs,as clinicians fielded fewer inquiries. That should be no surprise. No one has a greater interest in your health than you do.Trust in Doctor You.
People may know their health condition better by using technology if_____

    A.their medical records are available
    B.they accept medical algorithms training
C.data is paid much more attention
    D.health-carc institutions trust you

    答案:A

    Health Education

1.Health education is the part of health care that is concerned with promoting healthy behavior. A person's behavior may be the main cause of a health problem, but it can also be the main solution. This is true for the teenager who smokes, the mother with the poorly nourished(营养) child, and the butcher(屠夫,卖肉的人)who gets a cut on his finger. By changing their behavior these individuals can solve and prevent many of their own problems.
2.Health education does not replace other health services, but it is needed to promote the proper use of these services. One example of this is immunization(免疫):scientists have made many vaccines(疫苗)to prevent diseases, but this achievement is of no value unless people go to receive immunization.
3.Health education encourages behavior that promotes health, prevent illness, cures disease and contributes to recovery. The needs and interests of individuals, families, groups, organizations,
and communities are at the heart of health education programs. Thus there are many opportunities for practicing health education.
4.Health education is not the same thing as health information.Correct information is certainly a basic part of health education, but health education must also address the other factors that affect health behavior such as availability(可获性)of resources, effectiveness of community leadership, social support from family members, and levels of self-help skills.Health education therefore uses a variety of methods to help people understand their own situations and choose actions that will improve
their health. Health education is incomplete unless it encourages involvement and choice by the people themselves.
5.Also,in health education we do not blame people if they do not behave in a healthy way. Often unhealthy behavior is not the fault of the individual. In health education we must work with
families, communities, and even regional authorities to make sure that resources and support are available to enable each individual to lead a healthy life.

Individuals should be provided with necessary conditions for______.
    A:disease prevention
    B:health education
    C:healthy behavior
    D:unhealthy behavior
    E:other health services
    F: many vaccines

    答案:C

US to Start $3.2 Billion Child Health Study in January

A study that will cost$3.2 billion and last more than two decades to track the health of 100,000 US children from before birth to age 21 will be launched in January,US health officials said on Friday.
Officials from the US government's National Institutes of Health said they hope the study,to be conducted at 105 locations throughout the United States, can help identify early-life influences that affect later development, with the goal of learning new ways to treat or prevent illness.
The study will examine hereditary(遗传的)and environmental factors such as exposure to certain chemicals that affect health.
Researchers will collect genetic and biological samples from people in the study as well as samples from the homes of the women and their babies including air, water, dust and materials used to construct their residences, the NIH said.
Officials said more than $200 million has been spent already and the study is projected to cost$3.2 billion.
"We anticipate that in the long term(从长远来说),what we learn from the study will result in a significant savings in the nation's health care costs,"Dr. Duane Alexander, who heads the NIH's Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, told reporters.
The study will begin in January when the University of North Carolina and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York start signing up(签订协议)pregnant women whose babies will then be followed to age 21.

It is expected that through the study the nation's health care costs______.
A:will be lowered in the long run
    B:will be significantly increased
C:will be more than $200 million
    D:will reach $3.2 billion

    答案:A
短文的第二段提到了此项研究的goal,即aim,这便是learning new ways to treat or prevent illness。
D项不正确,应该是samples from the homes of the women and their babies including air, water, dust and materials used to construct their residences(参加研究的妇女及其婴儿家中的空气与水等物质)。

故填入has enjoyed。
