Practice 2EcotourismThinking about going off the beaten path for your next vacation? If so, you might be one of the many people—who are enjoying a relatively new mode of travel known as ecotourism. As the name implies, ecotourism focuses on conserving the ecology and natural heritage of tourist destinations. In addition, ecotourism features indigenous cultures and promotes ways for local communities to control and maintain their resources. In the past, vacationers usually spent their time staying at luxury hotels and visiting famous landmarks and museums in cities such as New York, Paris and Tokyo. Others preferred to relax on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii or the deck of a cruise ship in the sunny Caribbean. There was little interaction with the local people and overcrowding often spoiled the natural beauty of popular vacation spots. In addition, excessive commercialization turned many places into tourist traps. Since the early 1980s, however, adventure-oriented and nature-based vacation activities have become increasingly popular. Developing alongside a global rise in environmental consciousness and respect for cultural diversity, ecotourism is the one of the fastest growing sectors of the travel and tourism industry. Mountain climbing in the Himalayas, roughing it on a wilderness expedition, trekking in the Amazon rainforest and whale watching on the high seas are attractive alternatives to the urban comforts of five-star hotels and classy restaurants. But ecotourism means more than just traveling to remote destinations. The concept also emphasizes educating visitors about local people, customs and cultural heritage. Perhaps most importantly, it involves a methodical approach to tourism that minimizes the negative impact on natural habitats and gives host communities a leading role in decision-making processes, along with the lion’s share of economic benefits. As tourism might be the largest industry in the world, sustainable growth strategies should be adopted to ensure that our natural and cultural heritage is preserved for the enjoyment and benefit of future generations.

The Balance between Fluency and Accuracy

To be able to speak English with fluency and accuracy is a goal of many Chinese English learners.Fluency can be simply defined as"being able to communicate ideas without having to stop and think too much about what one is saying";speaking accurately means"speaking without errors of grammar and vocabulary".
However, the fact is that many students find that the faster they try to speak, the more mistakes they make. And,when they slow down, there may be fewer errors though it can sound unnatural. So,how to balance accuracy and fluency in spoken English?
It can depend on the manner in which one has studied English in the past.People who tend to focus on accuracy may find that they worry too much about making mistakes. This can make them nervous or embarrassed about speaking English in public. As a result, their spoken English might not improve. This means that, although they know English grammar and vocabulary well, they might not be able to hold a good conversation.
On the other hand, there are those who really like to talk and are willing to try their language out even if they make mistakes. This willingness to take risks helps them speak more fluidly. But,if they make a lot of mistakes,it may make it difficult for them to have their ideas understood.
The debate about which is more important一fluency or accuracy一in the English language has lasted for a long time.Still, one thing is clear:neither of them should be absent if one is to speak a language well. How can we be sure that we can develop both? The following tips could help.
Find the problem. What kind of person are you一one who focuses on accuracy or one who focuses on frequency? The first step is to recognize your problem and go to work on it.Think about situations where you've used English and how you felt about making mistakes?Do you always try some new language even though it might not be correct?Or do you feel embarrassed by mistakes?
Focus on one problem at a time. When you speak English, find the mistakes you make most often. One mistake Chinese often make is omitting the"S"from the third person singular verb.Or you may speak too slowly as if you were searching for the right word and correct grammar. The next time you use English, try to work on those problems you have identified. If it's fluency, try to focus on it.If you have a problem with the third person singular, try to concentrate on when you make such errors.Don't spend time thinking about other mistakes.By choosing an area to work on,you can isolate problems and help yourself overcome them.
Vary your practice. If you go to an English corner or an English club, try to change the types of activities you take part in so that you practice both fluency and accuracy.Public speaking allows you to slow down and be sure you have time to concentrate on the language.Meanwhile, discussions are good practice for fluency, especially if you don't stop each time a mistake is made.
Tell the difference between fluency and speed. Some Chinese think that speaking fast is the same as speaking fluently. In fact, speaking fluently involves not only speed. It also involves stress, pronunciation and intonation. If you make a mistake in these, speaking fast will only make it worse. Don't sacrifice understanding for speed.
Record yourself. Take a tape recorder and record a conversation with a friend or a speech or talk to yourself as you do it naturally!A two-or-three-minute recording is enough. When you've finished, listen to yourself. Can you find out any error and correct it?Make it a regular practice. The more you record yourself, the more confident and natural sounding you will become.

What is the definition for accuracy?
A:To speak without errors of grammar and vocabulary.
B:To be able to communicate ideas without having to stop and think too much about what one is saying.
C:To sound confident and natural when speaking.
D:To be able to speak at a high speed.

    答案:A
选择A的依据是第一段最后一句:" speaking without errors of grammar and vocabulary”说话不犯语法错误和词汇错误。
题干是:在“This willingness to take risks helps them speak more fluidly”句中fluidly的意思是什么?(第四段,第二行)。 On the other hand , there are those who really like to talk and are willing to try their language out even if they make mistakes.” 所以选A。
The debate about which is more important一fluency or accuracy一in the English language has lasted for a long time.Still, one thing is clear:neither of them should be absent if one is to speak a language well.”
The more you record yourself, the more confident and natural sounding you will become.”
People who tend to focus on accuracy may find that they worry too much about making mistakes. This can make them nervous or embarrassed about speaking English in public.”

American stereotypes are abundant.New Englanders are often thought of as being friendly and helpful.Southerners are known for their hospitality and warmth.People from the western part of the United States are often considered very outgoing. These differences in character can be traced to different factors such as climate, living conditions, and historical development.

资料:Changing careers is becoming more popular. Not just because there are more career options available, but also out of necessity. As new industries arise, others die. It's up to you to figure out if your career is still going to be around in the next 5-10 years. Some studies say we could have as many as nine careers in our professional lifetime. Which begs the question: do you know what it takes to successfully change career lanes repeatedly?
Switching careers is like changing highway lanes: you must signal!
If you want to move in a new career direction, you need to signal to the professional world you intend to make a change. You need to do it with purpose and specificity. It must look well-thought out and intentional. Otherwise, people will A) not know you are looking to make the change, and B)assume you are doing it because you failed in your current career in some way.
    1. Give the logic and passion behind your career change.
When signaling to your network you want to switch careers you must explain why both your head and heart are ready to change. Perhaps there are financial or geographic reasons (i.e., you need to relocate or make more money). But, you must also convey the excitement and sincere desire you have for this new career (i.e., you want to make a difference or work on a particular type of problem that needs to be solved).
    2. Build a marketing campaign for your business-of-one.
Most employers prefer to hire people with previous experience. Thus, you're going to need a way to convey to them your transferable skills from your former career path will be equally valuable. The best way to do this is to create a targeted list of employers you want to work for and then strategically network with their employees. The more conversations and connections you can have within your new career path, the easier it will be to convince someone to hire you in spite of your lack of experience.
To sum it up … Once you commit to a career change, the secret to success is to make sure everyone knows about it. Otherwise, you will struggle to change career lanes efficiently and effectively.

What does the sentence “you must signal!” mean in paragraph 2?

A.You need to have more conversations and connections within your new career path.
B.You need to build a marketing campaign for your business-of-one.
C.You need to give the logic and passion behind your career change.
D.You need to make sure everyone knows about it.

    【关键词】”you must signal’;mean;in paragraph 2
Switching careers is like changing highway lanes: you must signal! If you want to move in a new career direction, you need to signal to the professional world you intend to make a change.

E:Getting off and on in an orderly manner can save time for all.
F:Suddenly, you feel someone leaning over your shoulder reading along with you.

You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

My View on Home-fear Group As usual, many people working outside will be eager to go home and visit friends and families whom they have missed terribly. However, according to a survey, the surprise is that there are an increasing number of people, known as the “home-fear” group, who feel anxious about returning home.
As far as I am concerned, such fears can be attributed to economic pressure, long distance, parents’ desire to see their child get married and so on. Besides, difficulty in buying tickets is another important reason causing fear. In Spring Festival, not only bus and train but also airplane can not offer enough seats to take people home. So many people have to line up in advance for a couple days. In addition, many people are anxious about having to spend a lot of money during the festival.
In my opinion, Spring Festival is the time for family reunion. Therefore, the “home-fear group” should abandon all their worries, and go home to spend Spring Festival with their family.

They say that students should save scholarships for future studies, not just invite friend to dinners. 1. Do you agree with the people? 2. Give at least two reasons to support your idea.

Scholarships Can Be Used for Fun I don’t agree with those who holds that the scholarships should be saved for future studies, since spending scholarship having fun with friend is also a good choice.
Firstly by going to dinner together you can enjoy some happy time with your friends. The enlarged enrollment of university students results in fierce stresses and competition. Every day we students are driven to struggle for a happy and bright future like industrious donkeys and consequently have little time to enjoy the gentle perfume of friendship. But we are all human beings. We need not only successes in study, but also emotional contacts. How to satisfy this need? A little get-together of friends will do. Communication and mutual understanding can be derived from eating and drinking. So spending scholarships on dinner is not a bad idea.
Secondly, having fun with your friends can reduce the stress that most college students encounter. College life is competitive and stressful, so many student suffer from sleeping or eating disorders. When you have dinner with your friends, you laugh, chat and get nutrients at the same time. It is good for both your mental and physical health, so why not do it?
In a word, friendship and health are more important than money. So I will choose the former.

Which statement is true according to the passage?
A:You don't stop each time when you practice your accuracy.
B:You should care about all the mistakes in your speaking all the time.
C:Record yourself for three to four minutes is a good method to improve accuracy.
D:You record yourself more, and you will become more confident and natural sounding.

There are many stereotypes about the character of people in various parts of the United States. In the Northeast and Midwest, people are said to be closed and private. In the South and West, however, they are often thought of as being more open and hospitable.Ask someone from St.Louis where the nearest sandwich shop is,and he or she will politely give you directions.A New Yorker might eye you at first and after deciding it is safe to talk to you, might give you a rather unexpected explanation.A person from Georgia might be very kind about directing you and even suggest some different places to eat.A Texan just might take you to the place and treat you to lunch.
American stereotypes are abundant.New Englanders are often thought of as being friendly and helpful.Southerners are known for their hospitality and warmth.People from the western part of the United States are often considered very outgoing. These differences in character can be traced to different factors such as climate, living conditions, and historical development.
When travelling from place to place,Americans themselves are often surprised at the differing degrees of friendliness in the United States.

A.New Yorkers are usually open with stranger
B.People from the South are usually considered good host
C.The friendliest Americans travel from place to plac
D.Different parts have different customs and habit

What’s the best way to convince someone to hire you in spite of your lack of experience?

A.To build a marketing campaign by creating a better resume.

Practice 2 Many matters, however, are less easily brought to the test of experience. If, like most of mankind, you have strong convictions on many such matters, there are ways in which you can make yourself aware of your own prejudices. If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you subconsciously are aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If someone maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. The most savage controversies are those about matters as to which there is no good evidence either way. So whenever you find yourself getting angry about difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination that your belief is going beyond what the evidence justifies. For those who have enough psychological imagination, it is a good plan to imagine an argument with a person having a different opinion. This has one advantage, and only one, as compared with actual conversation with opponents: this one advantage is that the method is not subject to the same limitations of time and space. Mahatma Gandhi considered it unfortunate to have railways and steamboats and machinery; he would have liked to undo the whole of the industrial revolution. You may never have an opportunity of actually meeting anyone who holds his opinion, because in Western countries most people take the advantage of modern technology for granted. But if you want to make sure that you are right in agreeing with the prevailing opinion, you will find it a good plan to test the arguments that occur to you by considering what Gandhi might have said in refutation of them. I have sometimes been led actually to change my mind as a result of this kind of imaginary dialogue. Furthermore, I have frequently found myself growing more agreeable through realizing the possible reasonableness of a hypothetical opponent.

I’d like to talk about a famous Australian motivational speaker Nick Vujicic. I get to know him through a lecture given by him when I was in college. Before I saw him I had never met someone so mind-blowing and miraculous. The special thing about this speaker is that he was born without arms and legs. He struggled and fought with these difficulties throughout his childhood. When he was 17 he started his own non-profit organisation Life without Limbs. He lives in Melbourne with his parents and can actually live an independent live. Although he’s in a terrible condition he’s the happiest person I’ve ever seen. He used to have complaints about life but he got over them and embraced his situation finally. He travels to schools, churches and a lot of places to inspire people who also have disability. Moreover, he started establishing funds to help more people. My friends and I were so attracted to his charisma and optimistic attitude. We think he’s definitely happier than most of us because he has a grateful heart. His happiness is contagious and some of my friends even write him letters.
